History
Camp Canaan has been a ministry of Saline Baptist Church since 1977. A member of Saline at that time, Bro. Linville Tarter, had a burden for the church to have a camp ministry. He owned roughly twelve acres in Nancy, Kentucky where he had a vision for the camp to be. In 1976, before ever telling anyone of his burden for a church camp, he built two cabins on this land, knowing the Lord would one day use it for a camp ministry. In January of 1977, he went to the pastor of Saline at that time and shared with him his burden and told him there were already two cabins built on the land and ready to use. Bro. Linville Tarter donated all of the land to Saline Baptist Church and funded the first two cabins to be built out of his own pocket. The pastor supported his burden whole heartedly. Two more cabins were built quickly in the spring of 1977 to prepare for the first camp to be held in the summer of 1977. These facilities were used for nearly 25 years, then new block buildings were built in the early 2000's as the camp continued to grow. Bro. Tarter is in Heaven now, but he is no doubt still reaping rewards for the lives changed and are continuing to be changed at Camp Canaan.
